Accessibility for educators

This half a day course is designed for educators to raise their awareness about the new digital accessibility regulations and understand the two different model of disability and its impact on our thinking when designing learning materials.

Teaching staff will identify barriers to learning and explore the range of features and tools available, including features within Windows 10 and the Office 365 suite to help create an accessible and inclusive learning environment.

Who is it for?

The course is aimed at raising awareness about digital access in education. Not only is it our moral and ethical duty to create an accessible and inclusive learning environment, it is now a legal requirement with recent new legislation introduced.

This course covers the new legislation and creates awareness about the different models of disability and what tools are available to support all learners with different learning needs.

The course will cover:

Explore the new legislation and its implications for educators
Identify different barriers to learning
Explore good practice in creating learning resources
Create accessible learning material
Explore different accessibility features and technologies
Raise student awareness about digital accessibility features

I enjoyed finding out that so much exists out there to support students with disabilities to access the world of education. Having worked with visually impaired people in the past I have found it both amazing and inspiring.

Using tech is a game changer in education. If you do not use it and utilise it well you will be left behind in terms of your practice. It will also enhance the way in which students interactive with their courses as well as within the lesson. Education should be accessible to all.
